Both quarterbacks bring a certain level of potential and deep-ball accuracy, but they also come with inconsistency that could mirror last season’s struggles under Daniel Jones, who has since been traded away.
At 40 years old, Flacco may not fit the mold of a long-term solution, but his experience is exactly what the Giants need in their quarterback room. Having spent 17 seasons in the NFL, he’s amassed over 49,000 passing yards and thrown 283 touchdowns, albeit with 174 interceptions. Last season with the Indianapolis Colts, Flacco proved he still has something in the tank, throwing for 1,761 yards and posting a 12-7 touchdown to interception ratio while stepping in for Anthony Richardson.
The Giants simply need Flacco to be a stabilizing force—good enough to secure victories while easing the pressure off head coach Brian Daboll. He wouldn’t necessarily serve as the full-season starter, but rather as a bridge for rookie quarterbacks like Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward, or Jaxson Dart. Flacco could provide them with the necessary time to acclimate to the NFL without being thrown into the fire right away.
Moreover, Flacco’s presence would not only keep things steady on the field but also offer invaluable mentorship to a young quarterback, making the case for him as a smart short-term signing for the Giants as they navigate this pivotal phase in their franchise’s development.
