Fans Not Buying Travis Kelce’s Excuse For Super Bowl No-Show

It’s official … Future Hall of Famer Travis Kelce has decided to return for another season with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kelce told Pat McAfee today that there was simply no way he could end his career on such a sour note.

As a matter of fact, “sour note” doesn’t even do Kelce and the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIX performance justice…

Speaking of which, in a recent interview at the NFL Scouting Combine, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero that Kelce had been dealing with a “big illness” leading up to the Super Bowl,

“We’re never going to make excuses and talk about it but he was battling with a pretty big illness there before the Super Bowl but listen, the way the Eagles played, it wouldn’t have made a difference,” Veach said.

Other than hockey, if there’s one sport where these types of comments don’t fly it’s football.

Needless to say, Veach’s comments have sparked outrage among NFL fans, many of who are questioning the legitimacy of Kelce’s “illness.”

“I’ve heard from sources in Louisiana that Travis Kelce might have been out partying in New Orleans all night last night before the Super Bowl until around 7 am in the French Quarter … I don’t know if that contributed to the Chiefs performing terribly in the game or not, and I frankly don’t even have any way to prove it that Kelce was doing this, but sports journalists should dig into this and it could become a big story if it’s true.”

“Liars! He was sick afterwards, when they got the shit beat out of them. Would make me sick as well, but quit making excuses for him being a loser this time!”

“No. He was just sh*t.”

“Sick of blocking maybe…..”

“He didn’t look ill going to the party the night before….it’s on video.”

Considering what was at stake, Kelce’s performance in the Super Bowl was one of the worst in his entire career.

Having said that, his performance during the 2024 season was still solid, as he finished with 97 receptions for 823 yards and three touchdowns.

Most fans expected a “vintage” Kelce performance in the Super Bowl. However, everything that could go wrong for Travis and the Chiefs did go wrong.

The one silver lining for KC fans is that it’s safe to assume that Kelce will be more motivated than ever in 2025.

While his best days are long behind him, you know damn well that Kelce – and the entire team for that matter – will be on a mission next season.

What are your thoughts on Kelce’s decision to return to the Chiefs? … Do you believe that he was indeed battling a “big illness” during the Super Bowl???
