The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t the only NFL team invited to the White House this year. A little over a week ago, President Donald Trump extended an invitation to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Although the Chiefs got dismantled by the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, Trump wanted to invite the AFC powerhouse to the White House because for winning the Lombardi Trophy back in 2020. That team’s visit to the nation’s capital was ultimately shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I look forward to having the Eagles, and one other thing, we’re going to have the Kansas City Chiefs after that because they missed their turn because of COVID,” Trump told OutKick.
While at the NFL’s Annual League Meeting this week, Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt responded to Trump’s invitation. He made it clear that he’d like to visit the White House.
“We’re very honored that the president would think about us, going back to the 2019 season, when we didn’t get to go to the White House,” Hunt said, via The Athletic. “We certainly would like to try to figure out how to make that happen.”
Prior to attending Super Bowl LIX, Trump made it clear that he has a tremendous amount of respect for Chiefs stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes.
“Two great Quarterbacks in this game. Also, an unbelievable running back, and the absolute best tight end in football (Ever!). Incredible coaching! If they would only get rid of that really weird looking new Kickoff ‘deal,’ which actually makes football more dangerous, they would be doing everybody, especially the fans, a big favor,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “ANYWAY, IT WILL BE A GREAT GAME.”
We’re not sure if Kelce or Mahomes will accept an invite to the White House. If we’re being honest, it’ll probably be tough getting every member of the Super Bowl LIV roster on board with visiting the White House.
