As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, Colorado Buffaloes star quarterback Shedeur Sanders remains one of the most polarizing prospects in the class.
While many see him as a top-tier talent, others aren’t convinced that he’ll translate into a franchise quarterback at the NFL level.
Despite an impressive 2024 season, in which Sanders completed 74.0% of his passes for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, some draft analysts remain skeptical about whether he deserves to be a top pick.
Unlike past can’t-miss QB prospects such as Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, and Caleb Williams, Sanders’ draft stock varies widely among experts.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper has Sanders ranked No. 4 overall on his latest big board.
NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah slots Sanders at No. 11 in his top 50 prospects list.
Meanwhile, Joe A, a well-known NFL film analyst, takes a much harsher stance. He graded Sanders as a D- and believes he shouldn’t be considered as an elite prospect.
In his analysis, Joe even compared Sanders to journeyman backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke, a comparison that drew strong reactions online.
“I don’t know how many QBs I am going to end up grading this year, but I would be surprised if I grade any lower than I did Shedeur Sanders. I don’t think there is anything he does well,” Joe revealed on X.
One of the biggest debates surrounding Sanders is whether his father’s legendary status – Coach Prime himself, Deion Sanders – is inflating his NFL stock.
Some critics argue that his name carries more weight than his actual skill set.
However, it’s hard to ignore his statistical dominance at Colorado, especially considering the Buffaloes’ offensive line struggles throughout the 2024 season.
Despite the mixed opinions, it’s unlikely Sanders will fall far in the draft.
His combination of talent and marketability make him an attractive option for quarterback-needy teams picking early in the first round.
Several teams at the top of the draft order could take a swing on Sanders:
-Tennessee Titans (No. 1 overall)
-Cleveland Browns (No. 2 overall)
-New York Giants (No. 3 overall)
-Las Vegas Raiders (No. 6 overall)
-New York Jets (No. 7 overall)
Given the high demand for quarterbacks, it would be a major surprise if Sanders slips too far.
While it’s true that in most years, neither Sanders nor Cam Ward would be in consideration for the top overall pick, the fact of the matter is this is considered to be a down year for quarterbacks.
What are your thoughts on Sanders getting a “D-” grade in evaluation? … Do you think he will end up being a bust in the league???
