With the dust settled on Alabama’s disappointing season, quarterback Jalen Milroe has officially set his sights on the NFL.
The dual-threat signal caller declared for the NFL Draft following the Crimson Tide’s disastrous loss to the Michigan Wolverines in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
Milroe, known for his explosive rushing ability, showcased flashes of brilliance at Alabama. However, his inconsistency as a passer makes him a major wildcard prospect.
Despite the concerns, the Miami Dolphins have reportedly expressed significant interest in drafting him come April.
The Dolphins already have former Alabama star Tua Tagovailoa under center, meaning they aren’t in the market for a new starter.
However, they have engaged in discussions with Milroe about a potential role as Tagovailoa’s backup – and potential successor.
“QB Jalen Milroe has had conversations with the Miami Dolphins about their backup quarterback position, he said. Also added that conversations ‘went well,’” Isaiah Smalls of the Miami Herald reported on X.
Milroe’s college career was a rollercoaster to say the least – ranging from Heisman buzz to a brief benching.
As Alabama’s starter for the past two seasons, he posted solid numbers in 2023, throwing for 2,844 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions while adding 726 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground.
His mobility made him a unique weapon, but costly mistakes sometimes overshadowed his highlights.
His performance against Georgia in the SEC Championship game had some believing he could be a Heisman contender.
However, his struggles against Michigan in the College Football Playoff, including three turnovers in four plays, raised concerns about his decision-making under pressure.
This past season was more of the same. While there were some major highs, the same mistakes would often rear their ugly heads.
For Milroe to succeed in the NFL, he will need to develop greater consistency.
While his explosive talent will undoubtedly earn him an opportunity to compete, there are some evaluators who believe he doesn’t possess the necessary ability to be a franchise quarterback in the league.
In many ways, he’s the ultimate boom-or-bust prospect … However, the Dolphins apparently view him much more of a boom than a bust.
What are your thoughts on the report that Miami could draft Milroe and potentially one day replace Tua with him???
