Disturbing Update In Micah Parsons’ Battle With Cowboys

With just one year left on Micah Parsons’ rookie contract, the Dallas Cowboys are quickly running out of time to finalize a long-term extension with one of the league’s brightest young stars.

Parsons has been the backbone of the Cowboys’ defense since his arrival in 2021, accumulating 256 tackles and 52.5 sacks, establishing himself as one of the most dominant pass rushers in the NFL.

While the 23-year-old has not disclosed specific contract demands, experts believe Parsons is in line for a massive payday, possibly close to $40 million annually.

For context, the Cleveland Browns recently handed Myles Garrett a four-year, $160 million extension, setting a benchmark for elite pass rushers.

Despite Parsons’ stellar play, there has been little progress on contract talks with Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.

According to NFL Network’s Jane Slater, the franchise has yet to enter “meaningful talks” with Parsons about a new deal.

“While there is chatter on Twitter about Micah Parsons and a contract extension being finalized, I checked. Not only is it NOT done but what would be characterized as meaningful talks haven’t even begun yet per two sources informed,” Slater reported on X.

This news has left many Cowboys fans on edge, wondering if the team will meet Parsons’ demands or if the pass rusher could hit free agency sooner than expected.

Back in January, Parsons expressed his desire to get a deal done quickly, stressing his focus on team success over personal negotiations.

“I don’t want to hold anybody up,” Parsons said at the time. “I want to see some of these (free agents) back in this locker room. We have a great opportunity. I want to see change. I want to see players here. I want to be as aggressive as we can be. I don’t want to be a headache to nobody.”

Despite Parsons’ eagerness to get a deal in place, the Cowboys have yet to show much urgency.

With the NFL Draft fast approaching, the clock is ticking for both sides to reach an agreement that would secure Parsons’ future in Dallas for years to come.

There have also been unconfirmed rumors floating around that the Cowboys could consider trading Parsons if they are able to get enough in return.

Team executive vice president Stephen Jones did his best to shoot those rumors down earlier this offseason. “We love Micah. I can’t imagine there’s a scenario where he’s not wearing a star on his helmet,” he told NFL.com.

Despite those kind words, if you believe the well-connected Slater, serious negotiations haven’t even begun to take place yet.
