The Denver Broncos are in the middle of a franchise reset, and Courtland Sutton could be the next veteran on the move. The former Pro Bowl wide receiver has been one of the Broncos’ most reliable playmakers for years, but with only one year left on his contract and Denver shifting toward a younger core, it might be time for the team to cash in while his trade value is high.

Sutton is coming off a productive 2024 season, leading the Broncos’ receivers with 81 receptions, 1,081 yards, and eight touchdowns. However, Denver is looking to get younger at the position, with DeVaughn Vele and Troy Franklin emerging as potential long-term weapons. With Sean Payton in full rebuild mode, moving Sutton now could help the Broncos collect draft capital and continue reshaping the roster.

Why Trading Sutton Makes Sense

Sutton has been a consistent red-zone threat, but Denver needs to think long-term. With uncertainty at quarterback—whether it’s Bo Nix or another young passer—the Broncos must allocate their resources wisely. Trading Sutton now allows them to add more assets and cap flexibility, rather than risking losing him in free agency for nothing next year.

Additionally, Sutton’s contract situation could create tension. Last offseason, he skipped voluntary workouts, signaling his desire for a new deal. If Denver isn’t prepared to offer him a big extension, trading him before the situation turns into a distraction is the smartest move.

Who Would Be Interested?

Several teams in need of a veteran WR1 or WR2 could jump at the chance to land Sutton:

  • New England Patriots – Desperate for a big-bodied target to help their young quarterback.
  • Carolina Panthers – Bryce Young needs weapons, and Sutton would be a perfect fit.
  • Buffalo Bills – If they want to keep their offense explosive, adding Sutton could be a great move.

Final Thoughts

Courtland Sutton still has plenty left in the tank, but the Broncos are building for the future. If they aren’t planning on extending him, moving him now for valuable draft assets is the best way to maximize his value.

Denver’s focus should be on developing its young core, and while Sutton has been a great piece for years, it’s time for both sides to move on.
