The Dallas Cowboys have officially moved on from head coach Mike McCarthy, sparking speculation about who will take the reins next.

One name making major waves is Deion Sanders, a Cowboys legend and current head coach at the University of Colorado.

Despite stating over and over again that he’s not leaving Boulder, reports indicate that Sanders would “almost certainly” accept the Cowboys job if offered.

A fellow Dallas legend who has been beating the drum for Sanders is former star wide receiver Michael Irvin.

According to Irvin, Sanders and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones have already had serious talks about the position.

Appearing on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Irvin shed further light on the situation.

“Well, you guys now know that he and Jerry have had conversations, which I am so happy now to put that out in the ether and you guys finding that out,” Irvin said. “Yes, they are having conversations. When I talked to Deion last night and this morning, when I was talking to him … All I can say is that they are talking.”

Irvin refrained from sharing additional details, noting that he didn’t want to jeopardize anything.

Fans have speculated whether Irvin, a Hall of Fame wide receiver and Sanders’ former teammate, might have insider knowledge about Sanders’ potential move to Dallas.

Sanders himself has confirmed that he and Jones have spoke and that he is humbled to be considered for the position in Dallas.

“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing,” Sanders told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body, and the community.”

Sanders played a pivotal role during his five years with the Cowboys, helping the team secure a Super Bowl victory.

Since transitioning to coaching, he has transformed Colorado’s football program, bringing national attention to the school.

Irvin, who has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with McCarthy, expressed optimism about a new chapter for Dallas.

Appearing on FS1’s Speak, he said, “I’m just happy for the new direction and the new energy that will go into the new direction.”

While Sanders has repeatedly emphasized his commitment to Colorado, Irvin hinted in November that a move to Dallas could be in the cards, especially if the Cowboys also recruit Sanders’ son and quarterback, Shedeur Sanders.

“And I can tell you, good sources have told me that,” Irvin said with a laugh, implying that Sanders himself was likely the “source.”

The Cowboys’ coaching search is still in its early stages, but the idea of “Coach Prime” leading America’s Team has the football world buzzing.

Interestingly, Sanders has previously stated that he would never coach in the NFL.

However, he seems to have changed his mind on that. Although only time will tell if he ends up making the jump to Dallas.

If the reports are true, it’s his job if he wants it…

What are your thoughts on the Sanders-to-Dallas speculation? … Will it actually be happening???
