Cowboys Fans Feel Used By Jerry Jones & Deion Sanders

The Dallas Cowboys’ recent search for a new head coach ignited widespread speculation, with rumors linking Hall of Fame cornerback and Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders to the position.

However, clarity emerged as team owner Jerry Jones and COO Stephen Jones shared their perspectives, offering contrasting insights into Sanders’ potential candidacy.

The speculation began after the Cowboys parted ways with Mike McCarthy, leading to intense discussions about who might take the reins.

During a press conference announcing Brian Schottenheimer as the team’s new head coach, both Jerry and Stephen Jones addressed questions about Sanders.

Stephen Jones spoke glowingly of Sanders, leaving room for interpretation about whether the former NFL star was ever a serious contender.

“Jerry thinks the world of Deion, and I think the world of Deion,” he stated. “Every single thing he’s ever tried to do, he’s succeeded at it.”

His comments fueled speculation that Sanders might have been considered a viable option for the position.

However, Jerry Jones swiftly shut down the idea, making it clear that Sanders was not in the mix.

“He already has a job,” Jerry stated bluntly, referring to Sanders’ ongoing role as Colorado’s head coach.

By most accounts, it’s apparent that Sanders was never seriously considered for the Cowboys’ head coaching job.

Insiders close to the situation suggested that the rumors may have been part of a strategic effort by Sanders to gain leverage in his negotiations with Colorado.

Sanders, however, denied using such tactics, insisting he doesn’t engage in “negotiating ploys.” Still, the optics surrounding the rumors suggested otherwise.

Adding to the clarity, Sanders’ son, Shilo Sanders, later confirmed that his father never had any intentions of leaving Colorado.

“We already knew we were staying at Colorado,” Shilo said, dispelling any lingering doubts about a possible move.

The fleeting connection between Sanders and the Cowboys appears to have been more about marketing and media buzz than actual reality.

The situation allowed both parties to benefit from the increased attention.

At the end of the day, Sanders is indeed staying at Colorado where he hopes to continue to build-up the program.

Meanwhile, Jones and company decided to promote Schottenheimer to head coach – a move that hasn’t exactly swept Cowboys fans off their feet.
