Caleb Williams Takes Surprising Stance On Bears HC Search

The Chicago Bears will kick off the 2025 NFL season with a new leader on the sidelines.

Of course, Matt Eberflus was dismissed long before the Bears managed to salvage some pride with a win in their final game of the season.

Now, all eyes are on the search for a new head coach – a leader who can get the best out of Williams and the team.

Reflecting on what he hopes for in the team’s next coach, Williams emphasized the importance of being pushed to grow and develop.

“I would say just challenge me,” Williams said. “Whether it’s pulling me aside and saying whatever – having talks consistently. Maybe having a list of things, we want to accomplish, myself first – that helps the team.

“From there help find ways to set goals. However it might work out, just challenge. Find ways to help better myself and better the team. Really excited about that.”

Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, added that he values open communication with his coaches.

“I don’t have an issue being challenged, I don’t have an issue with speaking truth between the coach and I or whoever it may be. Whichever way it happens or shapes up is the way it goes.”

Williams’ rookie year showcased his potential but also highlighted areas for improvement.

He completed 62.5% of his passes for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and just six interceptions while rushing for an additional 489 yards. However, he endured a league-high 68 sacks and fumbled 10 times, losing five.

“I knew it was a big task at hand,” Williams said. “I knew there were some of the things I couldn’t do from college, some of the things I could do. A bunch of things I needed to learn on and off the field. There were more lessons this year than I would say I’ve had.”

Williams highlighted the importance of preparation and consistency as he looks to grow in his sophomore campaign.

“One of the things was all of the different things throughout the week that it takes for me to go out there and play well, the team to play well. That’s something I learned early on,” he said.

“Finding ways to be better with those things throughout the year and the years to come.”

As the Bears prepare for the 2025 season, finding the right head coach will be crucial to capitalizing on Williams’ potential and steering the franchise back to contention.
