The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are keeping their offensive core intact for yet another run, having recently locked in contract extensions for both wide receiver Chris Godwin and left guard Ben Bredeson. This strategic move signals their commitment to maintaining a high-octane offense, with quarterback Baker Mayfield at the helm, guided by new offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard.
However, as is the nature of the NFL, not every player can stay, especially with the Buccaneers navigating a tight salary cap. One significant departure from the roster is offensive tackle Justin Skule, who has signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings.
Skule emerged as a valuable depth piece for Tampa last season, stepping in admirably when injuries struck the offensive line. He started five games, showcasing his versatility and resilience during a challenging period for the Buccaneers’ health on the line. Early in the season, when right tackle Luke Goedeke was sidelined due to a concussion, Skule took over at right tackle and then switched to the left side following an injury to star tackle Tristan Wirfs. This adaptability was critical, particularly as Skule faced formidable competition, including a tough matchup against Lions standout Aidan Hutchinson.
Despite a rocky start, Skule solidified his spot as a reliable contributor. Across 213 pass-blocking snaps, he allowed just four sacks and accumulated 12 total pressures—numbers that highlight his growth and determination as he settled into his role.
Having spent the last three seasons with Tampa Bay, Skule joined the Buccaneers in 2022 from the practice squad, transitioning to the active roster and participating in all 34 regular-season games since then, including three playoff bouts. Originally drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Skule spent two seasons in the Bay Area before being released, paving the way for his journey to Tampa.
As he heads to Minnesota, it’s expected that Skule will again embrace a swing tackle role, complementing the returning starters on the Vikings’ offensive line. With his experience not just at tackle but also potentially at guard, Skule offers flexibility and depth to the Vikings as they prepare for the new season.
For Bucs fans, the offseason continues to be a pivotal period as the team gears up for another competitive year. Stay tuned for ongoing updates and insights as the Buccaneers navigate the upcoming challenges on their roster.
