Brock Purdy is officially the 49ers’ quarterback of the future – and he’s making sure there’s still room for others to thrive alongside him.
Despite a flurry of offseason changes and roster turnover in San Francisco, Purdy remained committed to securing a long-term deal that would keep him in the Bay Area.
That commitment paid off with a five-year contract extension that will average $45 million per year when factoring in the final season of his rookie deal.
The agreement places Purdy among the league’s highest-paid quarterbacks, though not at the very top … And that’s by design.
“This is our vision, this is hopefully what we can get out of it and get what you deserve and have earned and go from there,” Purdy said. “But, obviously, we want to make sure that we’re working together with our organization and setting up everybody for success.”
Rather than fight for every possible penny he could get, it was important to Purdy to go the extra mile to help the front office and the salary cap situation.
“It’s not just for me to get all the money, as much as I can, but also like, hey, let’s surround yourself with a great team and players and a great locker room and all those things mattered. So, we definitely talked about that, Purdy said.
The 49ers’ offseason has seen notable changes both on the coaching staff and the roster, but Purdy’s leadership has remained a constant.
Now, with the extension finalized, the 25-year-old signal-caller says his sole focus is on getting the Niners over the hump and finally winning a Super Bowl.
“Where we ended up was exactly where we needed to be. Now it’s time to go out, win games and lead this team,” Purdy concluded.
While Purdy won’t exactly be hurting for money anytime soon, what are your thoughts on him giving the 49ers a slight hometown discount???
