The Dallas Cowboys kicked off their spring Organized Team Activities this week, and defensive end Micah Parsons was notably present, drawing positive remarks from head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
Although Schottenheimer didn’t provide specific details about Parsons’ attendance or workload during the voluntary offseason workouts, he acknowledged that Parsons has been “in and out” while still awaiting a contract extension.
The coach did mention Parsons has been around “a little bit the last couple of days” and expressed gratitude for his presence despite the voluntary nature of the sessions.
“The first couple of days, we’re doing some team-building things, some culture,” Schottenheimer said. “We’re trying to create one of the greatest cultures in professional sports. Micah is going to be a leader for us.
“He wants to be a leader for us. He’s going to do that. I felt like it was very important for him to be here to begin that process. Again, it’s a voluntary camp but the fact that he did that, means a lot to me.”
The Cowboys’ offseason program requires mandatory attendance only at next month’s minicamp. The focus will soon shift to whether Parsons participates fully in training camp, especially if his contract negotiations remain unresolved by then.
Parsons is seeking a record-breaking contract extension as he enters the final year of his rookie deal.
The soon to be 26-year-old has already established himself as one of the NFL’s premier defenders, earning four consecutive Pro Bowl selections and accumulating 52.5 sacks over his first four seasons.
He is reportedly aiming for a five-year extension valued at approximately $200 million, which would surpass the current highest non-quarterback contract held by wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase at $161 million.
Parsons’ involvement in the voluntary OTAs sends a strong message about his commitment to the team’s culture and leadership – even as contract discussions continue to play out behind the scenes.

Will the two sides work something out before the season begins? … Or do you think the situation will soon turn ugly???
