Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is managing an ankle injury as the team gears up for their Sunday Night Football showdown against the Los Angeles Rams.
The Eagles, riding a six-game winning streak, sit atop the NFC East and are vying for one of the top seeds in the conference.
While the injury isn’t severe, it underscores the need to keep Hurts healthy as the team navigates a critical part of their season.
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero provided an update on Hurts’ condition via X.
“The Eagles listed QB Jalen Hurts as limited in practice with an ankle injury. Hurts told reporters it’s part of a ‘mini-program’ to be healthy for the stretch run, and he’ll fully practice the next two days.”
Despite the limitations in practice, Hurts reassured reporters that he’s taking precautions to stay in top form for the season’s crucial moments.
The quarterback has been instrumental in Philadelphia’s success, and his ability to stay healthy could define the Eagles’ postseason aspirations.
Needless to say, it’s not ideal for Hurts to be dealing with lingering injury issues. However, we all know there isn’t an NFL player alive who is close to 100% at this point in the season. (Except for maybe Trevon Diggs who seems to have mastered the art of avoiding contact.)
At 8-2, the Eagles hold a slim lead in the NFC East and currently rank second in the conference.
However, their remaining schedule presents significant challenges. Matchups against contenders like the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Washington Commanders, alongside divisional clashes with the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, leave little room for error.
The Eagles’ strong position is bolstered by their offensive and defensive balance.
The team ranks sixth in the NFL in points allowed, giving up just 17.9 points per game. Philadelphia’s defense has not allowed more than 30 points in a game all season, providing a steady foundation for the team’s success.
Meanwhile, running back Saquon Barkley has emerged as a star in his first season with the Eagles.
After a standout performance against the Commanders, Barkley now ranks second in the league with 1,137 rushing yards. His impact has been a revelation for Philadelphia, with many praising general manager Howie Roseman’s decision to bring the former Giant into the fold.
Under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, the Eagles’ offense has become one of the league’s most efficient units.
Over the past five games, the team has averaged more than 26 points per game while keeping turnovers to a minimum. Hurts has thrown just one interception since Week 3, a testament to the offense’s disciplined approach.
Looking ahead, the Eagles prepare for an important NFC clash against the talented Rams.
With a focus on maintaining momentum, Hurts’ health, Barkley’s continued dominance, and the team’s overall balance could set Philadelphia up for a deep playoff run.
Having said that, should the Eagles be worried at all about Hurts’ health going forward???
