While Philadelphia Eagles fans may still be relishing their dominant Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, the team is already setting its sights on the future.
With an impressive stockpile of draft picks over the next two years, the Eagles find themselves in an intriguing position heading into the 2025 NFL Draft.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, this could mean that multiple trades are likely on the horizon.
Schefter, speaking on his podcast, explained that the Eagles’ abundance of picks creates a unique opportunity for General Manager Howie Roseman to make some bold moves.
“Over the next two drafts the Eagles are scheduled to have 20 draft picks, 20,” Schefter said. “They can’t have 20 players make their roster. So on draft day this year, it would be just like the Eagles’ General Manager, Howie Roseman, to package some of these picks, either in this draft or next year’s draft as well to move up the board if there were a player that he really wanted.
“It would be just like him and this organization to trade some of these future picks for a veteran that a team knows they’re not going to re-sign that it knows they’re moving on from.”
The Eagles’ track record with draft-day trades is notable, with recent high-profile moves like the acquisition of wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Tennessee Titans.
Schefter went so far as to predict that trades will be a key feature of the Eagles’ draft strategy this year.
“I will guarantee right now, we’re going to get a trade or two out of the Philadelphia Eagles,” Schefter continued. “I don’t know for who, I don’t know for what, I don’t know when it will happen, but they’re not going to make 20 picks in the next two drafts, that ain’t happening.”
While the Eagles’ roster is already stacked, the team did lose some key defensive talent during the offseason.
Roseman, known for his ability to build depth, will likely continue to focus on enhancing the defense – an area that has been crucial to the Eagles’ recent success.
As the draft rapidly approaches, all eyes will be on Howie Roseman and the Eagles’ next strategic move, whether that involves trading up for a coveted prospect or adding a veteran player to bolster the team’s already impressive roster.
What are your thoughts on Schefter’s comments? … Just how aggressive do you think the Eagles will be during the draft???
