Aaron Rodgers For Justin Fields Gaining Major Momentum

Both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields have let it be known that they hope to remain in Pittsburgh.

Of course, they both want to be the permanent starting quarterback, so that’s an important footnote to attach to their statements.

However, both their futures with the Steelers is anything but certain.

The organization has already hinted that it’s unlikely they will carry both quarterbacks into the 2025 season.

With both set to become free agents, what the Steelers decide to do at the quarterback position will be one of the most interesting storylines of the upcoming offseason.

Interestingly, according to Pro Football Network, Fields could find his next opportunity in New York as the successor to Aaron Rodgers.

“Fields was effective as a starter for the Steelers in 2024 before being benched for Wilson after six games,” the outlet noted.

“Beyond the 4-2 record and 5-1 TD-INT ratio, Fields also averaged 0.04 EPA per dropback, which would have been inside the top 20 at the position if he had thrown enough passes to qualify for the leaderboard (200).

“Fields also had the highest completion percentage of his career (65.8%) and continues to be a red-zone weapon with his legs (five rushing TDs, all from the 7-yard line or closer).

“With the Jets likely moving on from Rodgers after the 41-year-old finished 21st in PFN’s QB+ rankings (72.1 grade), Fields could be a high-upside option for a roster that is otherwise veteran-laden and could be competitive in 2025.”

Fields also posted the best completion percentage of his career (65.8%) and remained a red-zone threat with his legs, scoring five rushing touchdowns – all from within seven yards.

With Rodgers aging and finishing a disappointing 21st in PFN’s QB+ rankings last season (72.1 grade), the Jets may be looking for a younger, high-upside option to lead their veteran-heavy roster into 2025.

Fields’ solid start to the 2024 season demonstrated his growth, yet it wasn’t enough to secure the Steelers’ trust, especially with Wilson still in the picture.

Despite Wilson’s struggles down the stretch, Pittsburgh may choose to stick with the veteran, leaving Fields to explore other opportunities.

If the Steelers prioritize Wilson, New York could make a compelling landing spot for Fields.

At worst, Fields could potentially serve as a bridge-quarterback for Gang Green as he does offer an intriguing mix of athleticism and playmaking ability.

A Fields-Tyrod Taylor pairing would give New York more mobility and out-of-structure play than Rodgers provided last year.

While Fields lacks the polished in-pocket presence Rodgers was supposed to bring, he could benefit from the Jets’ superior supporting cast compared to Pittsburgh’s.

A short-term deal with the Jets would not only give Fields a chance to start but could also serve as a stepping stone toward a more lucrative contract in the near future.

What makes this potential situation even more interesting are the rumors that the Steelers could be gearing up to make a run at Rodgers.

In other words, we could possibly have a virtual Fields-for-Rodgers swap on our hands.

The four-time NFL MVP has been very open about the massive respect he has for Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin.

Despite his age, Rodgers could very well be exactly what the Steelers need to finally get over the hump and become true Super Bowl contenders.

What are your thoughts on the possibility???
