The Green Bay Packers have built a reputation for transforming late-round offensive linemen into reliable starters, showcasing their development prowess with players like Rasheed Walker, Zach Tom, and Jon Runyan Jr. This history might have fueled general manager Brian Gutekunst’s hopes of finding similar success with Travis Glover, a sixth-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, as things stand today, Glover is at a precarious crossroads in his career, with the prospect of finding work elsewhere looming larger than a promising path to becoming a long-term starter within the Packers’ offense.
The Packers have made significant investments to bolster the offensive line, primarily to provide quarterback Jordan Love with solid protection. Among those moves was the selection of 2024 first-round pick Jordan Morgan, who is anticipated to claim a starting spot soon. Additionally, Green Bay utilized both a second-round and a seventh-round pick to draft linemen Anthony Belton and John Williams, respectively. They also made headlines by signing left guard Aaron Banks in free agency for a price that exceeded the market value.
With such an influx of talent, Glover finds himself in a crowded competition for roster spots that could ultimately jeopardize his standing with the team as the offseason progresses.
As the Packers gear up for the upcoming season, Glover is facing a steep uphill battle during the organized team activities (OTAs). Initially viewed as a developmental project following his arrival from Georgia State, Glover’s prospects now seem uncertain given how aggressively Green Bay has addressed their offensive line needs this offseason.
Glover’s NFL experience thus far includes a challenging postseason outing against the Philadelphia Eagles, where he found himself on the wrong end of three penalties and was benched after stepping in for Elgton Jenkins. While it’s understood that he was thrust into a tough position, especially for a young lineman, those struggles certainly don’t paint the best picture heading into the season.
To carve out a role for himself, Glover must outshine both Williams and undrafted free agent Brant Banks to secure the backup right tackle position. He does have the skills to make that leap; after all, he brings with him the experience of 57 college starts. But he’ll need to regain his confidence quickly, as every opportunity counts.
Given his draft status, the Packers are unlikely to offer Glover leniency in terms of opportunity. A lackluster preseason could seal his fate, leading head coach Matt LaFleur to make a tough decision regarding the former Day 3 pick. As the competition heats up, Glover’s performance will be closely scrutinized, and it’s clear the clock is ticking for him to prove himself a viable option on the Packers’ depth chart.
