Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis (8) prepares to take the field before the game against the Houston Texans at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025.

Will Levis’ 2025 NFL season has come to an end before it even had the chance to begin. The Tennessee Titans announced that Levis will undergo season-ending surgery on July 29 to address ongoing issues with his right shoulder – an injury that has lingered since last year.

In a statement, the Titans expressed their support for Levis’s decision, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing his long-term health. “After consulting with doctors and his representatives, Will Levis has decided to undergo shoulder surgery that will sideline him for the entire 2025 season. We support his decision to focus on his long-term health,” the team noted. They also highlighted his professionalism and growth as a leader during the offseason, expressing confidence in his recovery.

Levis first sustained the injury during the Titans’ Week 4 win against the Dolphins on September 30, when he dove for a crucial first down and suffered an AC joint injury. This setback significantly altered his trajectory for the upcoming season.

While Levis was facing an uphill battle for a starting role after the Titans drafted quarterback Cam Ward first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, the team’s general manager, Mike Borgonzi, had previously mentioned a desire for competition within the quarterback room. With Levis sidelined, Ward will now be joined by experienced quarterbacks Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle.

Entering his third season, Levis has had a challenging stint in the league since being selected with the 33rd pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. His starting record stands at 5-16, an indication of the struggles the Titans have faced. While he displayed potential during his rookie season with a solid ratio of eight touchdowns to four interceptions, his sophomore campaign proved more tumultuous, ending with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

The Titans now find themselves in a pivotal time as they realign their future with Ward at the helm and an eye on what this means for their long-term plans. The departure of Levis for this season is notable, and the focus will shift to how Ward adapts and whether the Titans can turn the corner in 2025.
