NFL Makes Stunning Decision On Olympic Flag Football

According to reports, the NFL is on track to allow its players to compete in flag football at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

The proposal, which would mark a historic first for both the league and the sport, is up for a vote at Tuesday’s league meetings.

Approval requires the support of at least 24 of the 32 team owners. However, a source familiar with the matter told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the vote “should be easy.”

If passed, the resolution would pave the way for the NFL to begin formal discussions with the NFL Players Association, Olympic organizers, and relevant national sports federations to determine the details of player involvement in the Games.

Interest among NFL stars has been high.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill have both publicly expressed a strong desire to represent the United States on the Olympic stage.

The 2028 Games will mark the debut of flag football as an Olympic sport.

Under the current terms of the NFL’s proposal, each country would be limited to one active NFL player per team, except for designated international players, who would not count against that limit.

To address potential concerns about injuries, the proposal includes a series of safeguards.

These would involve securing leaguewide insurance policies and providing a salary-cap credit for any player who sustains an injury during Olympic participation.

The Los Angeles Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 14 to July 30, 2028 – timing that overlaps with the early stages of NFL training camps.

Assuming the vote passes as expected, what are your thoughts on the NFL allowing players to compete in the Olympics?

Are you for it or against it???
