Aaron Rodgers’ Secret Steelers Workout

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ interest in veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers took another step forward over the weekend.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Rodgers recently held a throwing session at UCLA with newly acquired Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf.

Pittsburgh, which traded for Metcalf earlier this offseason, is building an offense featuring the star receiver alongside George Pickens and tight end Pat Freiermuth.

Metcalf is already making an effort to help bring Rodgers into the fold.

The latest development comes just a day after ESPN provided an update on the Steelers’ pursuit of Rodgers.

Head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the topic at the NFL’s annual league meetings, making it clear that the team is still assessing its options.

“Still evaluating the acquisition of a guy at the position, whether it’s free agency and/or the draft, and so we’re doing our due diligence communicating with some free agents,” Tomlin told reporters.

Tomlin also emphasized that the organization is allowing Rodgers to make his decision without imposing a strict deadline.

“I don’t know that we’ve approached it from a deadline perspective,” he said. “Certainly, as I mentioned, you’d like to have settled circumstances, but deadlines don’t often bring that to a head.”

Rodgers, who was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2005 and most recently played for the New York Jets, spent nearly six hours at the Steelers’ facility on March 21. However, he left without signing a contract.

Pittsburgh is in the midst of a major quarterback transition. None of the team’s three quarterbacks from the 2024 season – Russell Wilson (Giants), Justin Fields (Jets), and Kyle Allen (Lions) – remain on the roster.

The current depth chart features Mason Rudolph, re-signed on a two-year deal, and Skylar Thompson, who inked a reserve/future contract in January.

As the offseason unfolds, all eyes remain on whether the Steelers and Rodgers will ultimately strike a deal.
