The Tennessee Titans won’t be making the most polarizing uniform choice in the NFL — wearing Houston Oilers throwbacks — during the 2025 season.
That information is buried in a Thursday news release put out by the team about a switch from navy, which has been the dominant color of the Titans’ home uniforms since the move from Houston, to “Titans blue” as the primary jersey color starting next season.
“Titans blue” is known by some as the Oilers’ “baby blue,” which technically is “Columbia blue.” As the release said, it has been “a constant for the organization since 1960, the first days of the Houston Oilers.”

The late founder and owner, Bud Adams, moved the franchise from Houston to Tennessee in 1997 after a dispute with the city of Houston over a new stadium. Several times over the years, the Titans have worn Houston Oilers throwbacks, including once in the 2024 season and twice in 2023.
This is a point of contention between the Adams family — Adams’ daughter, Amy Adams Strunk, is now the controlling owner — and the city of Houston, where the family is still based. Many around the NFL have complained as well about the Titans wearing those uniforms rather than letting them go or letting the Houston Texans use them.
Now, the Titans will cease wearing them, at least in 2025, while focusing on their primary color.
“We’re talking to fans and we’re listening, and there’s a clear appetite to have the Titans, their team, represented on the field in this noticeable color that has been with this team from 1960 in Houston, into Memphis, at Vanderbilt and as we’ve played at Nissan Stadium,” Titans president and CEO Burke Nihill said in the release.
“We’re going to emphasize that this year and change to Titans blue as the primary color. As we sit here today, the plan is to wear Titans blue at every one of our home games this year.”
