The Seattle Seahawks have been busy this offseason, making some notable moves to reshape their roster.
After trading Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, Seattle quickly signed free-agent quarterback Sam Darnold as his replacement.
Now, Darnold’s new top target seems to be settling in well in the Pacific Northwest. Of course, I’m referring to local hero Cooper Kupp.
Kupp, who was released by the Los Angeles Rams and signed by the Seahawks, introduced himself to his new fanbase with a playful social media post.
“Hi, my name is Cooper. And I enjoy spending time with my family, playing football, and drinking coffee … Oh, and I play for the Seattle @Seahawks,” Kupp posted on X, sharing a photo of himself proudly holding his new Seahawks jersey.
The Rams made the difficult decision to release Kupp last week, and Seattle wasted no time bringing him on board.
Known for his incredible 2021 season with the Rams, where he recorded 145 receptions for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns en route to a Super Bowl title, Kupp has been one of the NFL’s top receivers since being drafted in 2017 as a third-round pick from Eastern Washington.
However, Kupp has faced challenges in recent years, struggling with injuries and failing to replicate his record-setting 2021 performance. Since that Super Bowl run, Kupp has played in no more than 12 games per season.
Now with Seattle, Kupp will join a receiver corps that includes Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Marquez Valdez-Scantling, providing a potent trio for Darnold in the 2025 season.
In an emotional reflection on his departure from the Rams, Kupp admitted that leaving Los Angeles after spending his entire career there was very tough.
“It has been difficult. Without a doubt, it has been difficult,” Kupp recently told ESPN.
However, Kupp’s decision to join the Seahawks wasn’t about facing his old team twice a year in the NFC West. Instead, it was a personal decision driven by his roots.
Kupp’s return to the Pacific Northwest has generated a lot of buzz, with both Seahawks and Rams fans interested to see if he can regain his old Triple Crown form.
One thing is for sure: With Darnold taking over the reigns under center, Seattle has a legitimate chance to shake up the NFC West in a major way.
While you can never count out the talented 49ers and Rams, do you think the Seahawks could ultimately establish themselves as the new kings of the division???
