The Buffalo Bills are looking to strengthen their receiving corps this offseason, and many believe it’s the missing piece that kept them from surpassing the Kansas City Chiefs in last season’s playoffs.
With Khalil Shakir securing a new deal, he’s expected to be Josh Allen’s primary target for 2025. He’ll be joined by Curtis Samuel and Keon Coleman as key contributors.
However, with Amari Cooper and Mack Hollins both entering free agency, it remains unclear whether general manager Brandon Beane will pursue re-signing either of them.
This uncertainty could leave the Bills short on receiving depth as they aim to challenge for a Super Bowl.
One potential game-changer for Buffalo’s offense could come in the form of Seattle Seahawks star receiver DK Metcalf, who recently requested a trade.
While the idea of acquiring Metcalf might seem far-fetched due to his hefty salary demands and the significant draft compensation needed, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell believes it’s a move the Bills should certainly pursue.
“One year after trading away Diggs, the guy who was supposed to be their No. 1 receiver, the Bills could restore that sort of player to their roster by trading for Metcalf,” Barnwell wrote on ESPN.com
“Adding him would give Buffalo a physicality it doesn’t have in its receiving corps, a role it tried to fill by trading a third-round pick for Amari Cooper at midseason.
“After the Shakir extension, I’d be surprised if the Bills made a move for a wide receiver who will make as much as Metcalf will on his next contract. But stranger things have happened.”
Initial reports indicate that the Seahawks will seek a 1st and 3rd round pick for Metcalf and that he will end up commanding at least $30 million per year from his new team.
With James Cook, Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, Keon Coleman, and Khalil Shakir rounding out the other offensive weapons, Metcalf could very well be the missing piece that Buffalo is searching for.
Interestingly, the rival New England Patriots are also expected to be right in the thick of the Metcalf hunt.
Metcalf once tweeted “Let’s go Patriots!” – a fact that has New England quite excited. (In fairness, that tweet came in 2014 when DK was in high school … But still!)
Perhaps the positive vibes from that tweet will get washed away when Patriots fans are reminded of Metcalf’s past comments about the idea of living in New England…
Needless to say, the Metcalf situation is one of the biggest storylines of the early offseason.
Still in his prime, DK has proven to be a true game-changer and would surely continue to thrive if teamed-up with either Josh Allen or Drake Maye.
What are your thoughts on Metcalf? … At the end of the day, where do you think he will end up???
