With the 2025 NFL Combine officially in the books, Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders has found himself at the center of controversy.
The high-profile quarterback is facing backlash after reports emerged suggesting his behavior during interviews left a negative impression on multiple NFL teams.
Sanders was accused of coming off as “brash” and “arrogant” as many began to wonder whether his ego would prevent him from becoming a franchise quarterback in the league.
Additionally, Todd McShay of The Ringer revealed on his podcast that two people who interviewed Sanders were “taken aback” by his demeanor, feeling that the quarterback didn’t care about the opinions of the teams or organizations he was speaking with.
These concerns about Sanders’ attitude have raised doubts among some draft experts, with many predicting a potential drop in his draft stock.
Just a few weeks ago, he was considered a potential contender for the No. 1 overall pick, with BetMGM listing his odds at +350. However, after these latest reports, those odds have significantly plummeted to +1500.
“He could go in the top six or fall out of the first round entirely – and neither outcome would be a shock,” The Athletic’s Dan Brugler stated. “He is not a first-round quarterback for a lot of NFL teams, which isn’t a major surprise (and matches my evaluation).”
Despite the negative reports, Shedeur has the full support of his father and coach, Deion Sanders.
Deion re-posted a video of Mark Schlereth from FS1, in which Schlereth strongly backed Shedeur’s confidence and skill set.
“A lot of the draft evaluators are stupid,” Schlereth said. “Show me a QB who’s not arrogant. … Most of them have a lot of belief in what they do. [Sanders] is incredibly accurate. He really understands not only offensive football, but he understands what you’re doing as a defense. He’ll pick you apart that way. He processes quickly. All those things, to me, are big-time attributes.”
Shedeur Sanders, who was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, remains highly ranked in draft circles, despite the mixed reviews.
He holds the title of No. 1-ranked QB and is listed as the No. 5 overall player on Mel Kiper Jr.’s draft board.
However, in Kiper’s most recent mock draft, he has Sanders going No. 7 overall to the New York Jets, predicting that the young quarterback will see a bit of a fall on draft night.
“Sanders would elevate this New York team that was near the bottom of the league in most passing metrics this past season and allow it to build around his rookie contract,” Kiper said. “The youthful combination of Sanders, receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall could do some damage.”
Needless to say, it’s been quite a rollercoaster ride when it comes to Sanders.
With the draft still well over a month away, you know there’s going to be many more “reports” coming out about the polarizing QB. (Some will be true. Some won’t.)
What are your thoughts on this whole Shedeur Sanders saga? … At the end of the day, where will he actually go in the draft???
