Aaron Rodgers will be suiting up for a new team in the 2025 season after the New York Jets decided to part ways with the veteran quarterback earlier this month.
In a meeting with Rodgers, the new leadership of the Jets made it clear that they would be moving in a different direction.
With that decision comes a close to one of the most disastrous experiments in NFL history (based on expectations).
Rodgers, who has made his mark as one of the league’s top quarterbacks, will have several suitors when free agency opens in two weeks.
On that note, ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter believes that Rodgers’ clear preference is to wind up with the Los Angeles Rams.
“With Aaron, I think we start with the fact that you have to see where Matthew (Stafford) is gonna go. Is Matthew going back to LA, or is he not going to LA, because if he’s not going to LA, I’m sure that LA appeals to Aaron Rodgers,” Schefter said on The Pat McAfee Show.
Schefter went on to say that Rodgers is motivated to prove himself, especially after the hit his legacy took during his failed tenure with Gang Green.
“That would be my guess. And you would know probably better than I but I believe Aaron wants to play. I believe he wants to play at least another year,” Schefter continued.
“I believe he has a chip on his shoulder and he wants to come back and play this upcoming season and show people that he still has the juice and still can get it done. So I think he is going to play.”
Rodgers, who played the entirety of the 2024 season after recovering from a torn Achilles, posted impressive stats with 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
While his best days are undoubtedly behind him, it’s clear that Rodgers can still play at a high level, especially if protected by a capable offensive line.
The Rams, who may need a quarterback if they decide to trade Stafford, are still in negotiations with their star QB on a new contract.
However, the situation remains uncertain, with the potential that the Rams may not be willing to meet Stafford’s financial demands.
With free agency quickly approaching, all eyes will be on the Rams’ next moves and whether the quarterback dominoes begin to fall.
Rodgers’ camp reportedly reached out to the New York Giants to gauge their interest. Ironically, the G-Men have been arguably the most aggressive pursuer of Stafford.
It’s not every year that two sure-fire Hall of Fame quarterbacks end up changing teams – but that may very well be the case this offseason.
What are your thoughts on both the Rodgers and Stafford situations? … Where do you think they will end up???
