Stefon Diggs is slowly but surely working his way back from the ACL tear he suffered in Week 8, and as he does, he’s also facing an important chapter in his career with the 2025 offseason of free agency looming on the horizon. While he may not quite be the elite wide receiver he once was, Diggs still has valuable experience and can serve as a crucial asset—both on and off the field—for the right team.

That team could be the Kansas City Chiefs.

With the Chiefs losing both Marquise Brown and DeAndre Hopkins to free agency, the need for a reliable receiver is amplified. Diggs, now available, could very well be a priority signing for Kansas City. The prospect of pairing him alongside an already dynamic offense led by Patrick Mahomes is intriguing.

While things seemed to be on the right track for Diggs during his time with the Houston Texans, the season-ending injury hampered what could have been a standout year. Before the injury, he had managed to accumulate 496 yards and three touchdowns across 47 receptions. Yet, in a rebuilding Texans organization, a player like Diggs, who is still impactful but may not fit into their long-term vision, is best suited to move on and find a better situation.

For the Texans, as they look to see C.J. Stroud reclaim his footing after a sophomore slump, a receiver who can contribute immediately and grow with him would be more beneficial. Given Diggs’ past issues off the field and the Texans’ young, developing core, a parting of ways seems logical and beneficial for both parties.

On the other hand, for the Chiefs, the potential acquisition of Diggs could provide much-needed veteran leadership in their receiver corps. With the likes of Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy still finding their footing in the league, having a seasoned presence like Diggs in the locker room would be invaluable, especially following a tough Super Bowl loss.

Diggs’ previous experiences playing alongside elite quarterbacks like Josh Allen and now the prospect of teaming up with Mahomes could ease his transition back into competition. His understanding of how to adapt when plays break down will be key for Mahomes, providing cohesion and reliability in critical moments.

While it’s clear that Diggs is bouncing back from injury, he won’t need to carry the burden of being the primary target in Kansas City’s offense. That flexibility could be a game-changer, allowing him to thrive. If the Chiefs can secure Diggs, it would bolster their depth, allowing the team to bounce back from a disappointing 2024 and setting them up for a strong Super Bowl push in 2025. The addition of a player like Diggs could indeed illuminate the path back to championship contention for the Chiefs.
