The Philadelphia Eagles are still riding high after a dominant 2024 season that culminated in a 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
With their second Lombardi Trophy secured, the team just received significant news concerning one of their key offensive linemen.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Eagles center Cam Jurgens underwent a back procedure this week in Los Angeles. The surgery, performed by Dr. Robert Watkins, was intended to relieve nerve pain.
The good news for Philadelphia? Schefter reports that doctors expect Jurgens to make a full recovery by July, meaning he should be ready in time for training camp.
This is a significant development for the Eagles, as Jurgens, a Pro Bowl-caliber center, is a critical component of their offensive line.
It’s also an encouraging update for Jurgens himself, who is heading into the final year of his rookie contract.
If he stays healthy and performs at a high level this season, he could be in line for a lucrative extension next offseason.
Jurgens initially sustained his back injury during Philadelphia’s Divisional Round win over the Los Angeles Rams.
The Eagles had planned to keep him sidelined for the NFC Championship Game, but an injury to Landon Dickerson forced him back into action.
Jurgens then played through the pain in the Super Bowl, helping anchor the offensive line in their dominant victory over the Chiefs.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts was undoubtedly grateful to have Jurgens snapping him the ball.
The two have developed strong chemistry over the years, and Jurgens plays a pivotal role in the Eagles’ signature “tush push” play, which has been a nightmare for opposing defenses in short-yardage situations.
Needless to say, Jurgens proved his toughness playing through the pain in order to help the Birds.
We all know that hockey players are a breed of their own when it comes to toughness and selflessness. While football players are right up there as well, some are tougher than others.
Who knows how well he can skate, but the toughness Jurgens showed this season proves he deserves an honorary spot on Team USA as we get set to take on Canada for the championship tonight.
