Saints Believe Kellen Moore Makes Them Team To Beat In NFC South

After weeks of speculation, the New Orleans Saints have finally secured their new head coach. Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has officially been hired to take over the reins in New Orleans.

Moore played a crucial role in the Eagles’ success this season, helping guide them to a Super Bowl victory with one of the most dominant rushing attacks in the league.

With the help of star running back Saquon Barkley, Moore’s offense racked up 3,048 rushing yards – second only to the Baltimore Ravens’ 3,189 yards.

Bringing a wealth of experience to the job, Moore has spent five seasons as an offensive coordinator in the NFL – three with the Dallas Cowboys, one with the Los Angeles Chargers, and most recently, a single season in Philadelphia.

Now, he will shift his focus to assembling a coaching staff, with reports indicating that Eagles quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier and former Chargers head coach Brandon Staley are likely to join him in New Orleans.

While Moore’s hiring marks a new era for the Saints, he inherits a franchise facing significant hurdles – chief among them, an extremely tight salary cap situation.

Historically, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis has been aggressive in managing the cap, often pushing financial obligations into the future.

However, the team now finds itself a staggering $54 million over the cap for the 2025 season.

Making matters worse, they are dealing with $48 million in dead cap space, with star cornerback Marshon Lattimore’s contract accounting for a massive $31.66 million of that total.

To comply with cap restrictions, the Saints will likely have to make a series of difficult roster decisions, including player cuts, trades, and contract restructures.

For most incoming head coaches, reshaping the roster is a key part of establishing their vision for the team.

However, New Orleans’ financial limitations could significantly hinder Moore’s ability to make sweeping changes.

How Moore’s arrival influences the Saints’ offseason moves remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – he faces an uphill battle in turning the Saints into contenders once again.

Having said that, there is plenty of excitement in New Orleans as some Saints fans are hoping that Moore will develop into Sean Payton 2.0

Is it possible that with the hiring of Moore, the Saints will soon be the team to beat in the NFC South???
