The 2025 NFL offseason is shaping up to be a compelling one, especially with a receiver free agency class that isn’t exactly bursting with star power. This landscape is turning the spotlight onto potential trades, and one name that’s cropping up in conversations is Kyle Pitts, the talented tight end from the Atlanta Falcons.

Washington had a stellar 2024 season under the guidance of Jayden Daniels and Dan Quinn, but there’s no denying some holes in their roster need addressing, especially after their NFC Championship Game loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, if you’ve been following Pitts’ journey since his college days at Florida, you’ll remember the hype was real. Nicknamed as the next big thing in the tight end world, Pitts was expected to redefine the role with his remarkable receiving ability, boasting 1,492 yards and 18 touchdowns over three collegiate seasons. Fast forward to his pro career with the Falcons, and the narrative hits a snag. Under two different coaches, Pitts seemed underutilized. Arthur Smith leaned too much on his blocking abilities, and Raheem Morris struggled to fully weave him into the offensive game plan. The result? A decent, but unremarkable 602 yards and four touchdowns on 70 targets this past season.
It’s evident Atlanta’s system isn’t allowing Pitts to maximize his skillset. Trading him could yield tremendous returns for the Falcons, helping them reallocate resources to meet more immediate team needs.
For the Commanders, securing Pitts could be a game-changer. Jayden Daniels impressed everyone by operating the offense with the poise of a veteran, completing 69.0% of his passes for 4,135 yards, with 29 touchdowns and just nine picks. His dual-threat capability also shone through with 978 rushing yards and six touchdowns. But here’s where the problem kicks in: Terry McLaurin is currently the main target, and defenses have honed in on him, particularly evident in their matchup against Philly. McLaurin was held to merely three receptions for 51 yards, stunting the Commanders’ offensive momentum.
Adding Pitts to the roster would give Daniels another formidable weapon. Even with Zach Ertz, who despite his age at 34 is yet to show signs of decline, the presence of Pitts would introduce an exciting new dimension. Pitts’ ability to operate out wide would seamlessly complement McLaurin and shore up any future positional uncertainties.
