Bills Cut Backup QB Ahead of Chiefs Matchup

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (17) sits out a portion of the fourth quarter after the Bills held a large lead over then Jets during second half action at the Bills home game against the New York Jets at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park on Dec. 29, 2024.

The Buffalo Bills recently added quarterback Anthony Brown to their practice squad, a strategic move designed to prepare them for facing Lamar Jackson. With Brown having spent time backing up Jackson during his stint with the Ravens, he was brought in to replicate Jackson’s unique playing style on the scout team. You could say the Bills wanted a little “Jackson magic” for their preparation.

During the matchup, Jackson delivered a solid performance with 39 rushing yards and 254 passing yards, including two touchdowns. However, the game wasn’t without its blemishes, as Jackson was responsible for two of the Ravens’ three turnovers.

Having accomplished what he was brought in for, Brown’s role with Buffalo has wrapped up. The Bills waived him from the practice squad on Tuesday.

Moving forward, the Bills’ backup quarterbacks, Mitch Trubisky or Mike White, will take the reins in practice. They’ll need to channel their inner Patrick Mahomes as the Bills gear up for their next big challenge. With Josh Allen leading the charge, it’ll be up to these backups to mimic the dynamic versatility that Mahomes brings to the field, ensuring the Bills’ defense stays sharp and ready for action.
