New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is facing a pivotal offseason decision regarding his future in the NFL.
The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer has been contemplating retirement, and now, he must decide if he wants to return for a 21st season or step away from the game entirely.
However, the Rodgers decision of course involves the Jets as well. Even if he wishes to continue playing, there’s no guarantee that Gang Green will even want him back.
For now, the Jets are focused on hiring a new head coach and general manager. The question of Rodgers’ future has taken a temporary backseat.
Rodgers’ uncertainty has led to speculation about his next steps.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter recently floated the possibility of a significant change for the quarterback, suggesting a potential move to the New Orleans Saints in 2025.
This move could also include a reunion with his former coach, Mike McCarthy, should McCarthy land the head coaching position in New Orleans.
“I think they’re kind of committed,” Schefter said. “They have to be committed to Derek Carr, whoever the head coach is. If Mike McCarthy gets that job, and if Aaron Rodgers wants to play, and if they have the conversation, there’s a lot of ifs that have to happen before we could get there, in my mind.”
While there’s a lot of speculation and many unknowns, Schefter’s comments suggest that Rodgers’ future may not be tied to New York.
There are many who feel that the Jets are more than happy to turn the page from the Rodgers experiment.
If they do, and Rodgers wants to continue playing, perhaps the Saints could be a possible landing spot after all.
There are also rumors of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans also being interested in the four-time MVP.
