NFL legend Troy Aikman knows a thing or two about elite quarterback play.
According to most fans, Aikman is the top NFL analyst in broadcasting, due largely to his no-nonsense approach and his willingness to tell it like it is.
That’s precisely why fans took notice when Aikman revealed that Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is his favorite quarterback in the league.
“He, without question, is my favorite quarterback in the NFL, maybe my favorite player of all time for that matter,” Aikman recently said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.
“I just love everything about him, especially in today’s NFL where you just don’t see these types of players. He’s an old-school quarterback. He could’ve played in the ’90s.”
“I don’t know if he’s the best quarterback in the game today,” Aikman continued. “Obviously you’ve got Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, but [Burrow] throws with anticipation better than anybody currently playing the game.”
The season hasn’t gone the way the Bengals have expected, but it’s clear that Burrow has nothing to do with the disappointment.
Remarkably, 2024 has been the best season of Burrow’s career. At least individually. But he would surely trade in his mind-blowing statistics for a playoff berth.
On that note, the Bengals will enter Week 18 with a shot at the AFC’s final playoff spot.
Of course, the chances of claiming that final playoff spot are slim. Not only does Cincinnati have the beat the Steelers on the road, but they also need both the Dolphins and Broncos to lose.
It’s a crummy feeling to lose control of your own destiny in the playoff hunt, but the harsh reality is the Bengals have no one to blame but themselves.
Having said that, most fans recognize that if the Bengals are indeed able to sneak into the playoffs, they will be just about as dangerous as any team in the league.
Perhaps the Chiefs recognize that as well and will act accordingly against the Broncos on Sunday…
As for Burrow, if the Bengals didn’t have such a mediocre record, there would be an extremely strong chance that he would win MVP.
Entering Week 18, Burrow has thrown for 4,641 yards, 42 touchdowns and only 8 interceptions.
What are your thoughts on Aikman’s praise of Burrow? … Do you think he’s the best quarterback in football???
