The New York Jets continued their dismal season with a 19-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
Continuing to be plagued by self-inflicted mistakes that have epitomized their struggles this year, the Jets fell to a disappointing 4-11 on the season.
Gang Green’s offense turned the ball over on downs three times, missed a crucial late field goal, and botched an extra point.
Adding to the woes, quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Xavier Gipson both fumbled, with the Rams recovering both times.
Another troubling storyline was the Jets’ inability to involve star receiver Garrett Wilson, whose frustrations have become increasingly public.
“I don’t know, to be honest with you, man,” Wilson said after the game when asked how he can get more targets from Rodgers.
“I don’t know. I just gotta go out and put my best foot forward and hope that things fall my way. I would love to be involved, love to make an impact on the game, but if people see it differently that’s out of my control. Just trying to do what I can do.”
Despite outgaining the Rams in total yards (321 to 242), running 13 more plays, and holding the ball nearly five minutes longer, the Jets faltered when it mattered most.
The Rams broke open a tight game in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 unanswered points to seal the win.
Rodgers finished the game with 28 completions on 42 attempts for 256 yards and one touchdown, targeting key players like Davante Adams (68 receiving yards, one touchdown), and Tyler Conklin (59 receiving yards).
Meanwhile, Wilson was targeted seven times, finishing with six receptions for 54 yards.
After the loss, Wilson’s frustrations boiled over, including a since-deleted Instagram story where he criticized the Jets’ offensive strategy.
“Yu think l’m tryna be cool w that 5 yard catch???” Wilson wrote. “Absolutely no, I’m tryna take that mf to the crib. Turn it into an explosive. Shake the whole squad/ atleast go out trying. Yu prolly nvr understand. If u mad about 2 yards jus know that’s why we won’t get along.”
Rodgers, meanwhile, offered a pointed critique of the team’s culture and preparation.
“You got to figure out what it means to be a professional,” Rodgers said. “I think that’s an important part of building culture. The last two weeks, we can really see who’s on board moving forward and who is ready to get out.
“It’s interesting to watch the practice habits, the preparation habits. Hopefully, we’ll do the right thing and that means a lot because everybody is watching and it’s a who-you-know business.”
Rodgers’ comments hinted at friction within the locker room, especially as the team faces questions about Wilson’s long-term role.
There are rumblings that Wilson will request a trade at season’s end.
Of course, Rodgers’ future has also been called into question. With the Jets facing a possible full-blown rebuild, the four-time NFL MVP could be taking his snaps elsewhere next season. (Or he could even retire.)
What are your thoughts on all of the drama with the Jets???
