Well, folks, it looks like the transfer portal is heating up again! Air Noland, a super talented freshman quarterback, is on the move after just one season with the Ohio State Buckeyes. And you know what? I don’t blame him one bit.
Noland was a top recruit – the 61st overall prospect in the 2024 class – and had offers from just about everyone. He committed to Ohio State early, hoping to make an impact. But sometimes, things just don’t work out the way you planned.
The Buckeyes landed a couple of transfer quarterbacks, Will Howard and Julian Sayin, and suddenly Noland found himself buried on the depth chart. Then, they added another five-star quarterback, Tavien St. Claire, to the mix. It’s tough to see the field when you’re competing with that kind of talent.
So, where does Noland go from here? One intriguing possibility is the Oklahoma Sooners.
Think about it: Noland is a dynamic, dual-threat quarterback who can make plays with both his arm and his legs. That sounds an awful lot like the kind of quarterback Brent Venables loves to have running his offense. Remember Jackson Arnold? He’s transferred to Auburn, leaving a big hole at quarterback for the Sooners.
Oklahoma had a bit of a rough season this year, going 6-6 in their first year in the SEC. They’re looking to bounce back in a big way, and Noland could be the guy to lead them. He’s young, he’s got tons of potential, and he could be the face of the program for the next few years.
Plus, the Sooners just brought in Ben Arbuckle, the offensive coordinator from Washington State, who has a knack for developing quarterbacks. He helped Cam Ward become a Heisman candidate at Miami and had John Mateer playing at a high level this year. Imagine what he could do with a talent like Noland!
Look, I’m not saying it’s a done deal. But if I’m Brent Venables, I’m picking up the phone and giving Air Noland a call. This kid has the potential to be something special, and he could be the key to getting Oklahoma back to the College Football Playoff.
