Former NFL wide receiver and Super Bowl champion James Jones has publicly apologized to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott after harshly accusing him of “quitting” on his team.
This week, on FS1’s show The Facility, Jones stirred controversy with his comments, questioning the severity of Prescott’s injury.
Jones suggested that the star quarterback was exaggerating his condition after he left last Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons with a hamstring injury.
“Dak quit,” Jones said. “It’s crazy because it ain’t even like funny though. My man quitting on these dudes. I’ve had a hamstring plenty of times and I’m back the next week … It don’t take no four weeks to heal from a hamstring.”
Jones’ comments sparked backlash from Cowboys fans who argued that his critique was both unfounded and dismissive.
However, the situation escalated when news broke on Wednesday that Prescott’s injury was more serious than initially believed.
NFL Network’s Jane Slater reported that Prescott is dealing with a “partial avulsion” of the hamstring, meaning the tendon is nearly torn off the bone – a condition that generally requires a recovery period of around four weeks.
“In some cases, they let it scar over, repair and then strengthen,” Slater reported. “With that being said, Prescott is seeking other opinions which is why there is currently a reluctance to place him on IR or make any determinations about a timeline for return.”
When his FS1 co-host Emmanuel Acho caught wind of the report, he quickly took to social media to encourage Jones to reconsider his previous stance.
“Ummm, James Jones … I believe you owe Dak Prescott a massive apology,” Acho posted on X.
Jones responded without delay, acknowledging his mistake.
“Nawww….this can’t wait until tomorrow!” Jones said on Twitter. “That’s my fault…seeing the reports of how bad it might be…that’s tough! God Speed Dak,” Jones responded on X.
With Prescott expected to be sidelined until at least December 9, the Cowboys face an uphill battle as they prepare to play the rival Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday in Dallas.
Their three-game losing streak and Prescott’s injury have cast a dark shadow over the team as it seems the Mike McCarthy era may soon be coming to an end.
