More Fuel Added To Fire For Dan Campbell & Starving Lions

The Detroit Lions made a statement on Sunday, defeating the Green Bay Packers 24-14 in a rainy showdown at Lambeau Field.

In their first outdoor game of the season, Detroit defied the “dome team” label and showcased their toughness and grit in adverse conditions, extending their lead in the NFC North.

The Lions relied on a punishing ground game and a staunch defensive effort to secure the win, showing they are built to compete anywhere.

Quarterback Jared Goff addressed the narrative head-on after the game, telling FOX’s Erin Andrews that the Lions were prepared to end the doubts about their ability to play outside.

“It was come-and-go, the second half was certainly wetter than the first half, but it was a fun game,” Goff said. “Whenever you get in these games, ya know, they’re kinda once a year you get ones like this.

“In Green Bay, in Lambeau, we’re supposed to be the dome team. We come in here, we’re supposed to be the team that can’t play outside, and we come in here and win.”

Head coach Dan Campbell echoed Goff’s message in the locker room following the dominant win.

“It doesn’t matter about the conditions, MCDC said. “We knew that coming in here. We didn’t want to know if we validated anything. Are we going to validate playing the weather? It doesn’t matter, man!

“That’s just the way you’re built. That’s an outstanding win! I am unbelievably proud of you guys. That’s a way to come in and ball.”

Despite the wet conditions, Goff played a smart, mistake-free game. (What else is new?)

He threw for just 145 yards, but completed 20 of 24 passes with no turnovers, a key factor in Detroit’s win. Meanwhile, the Packers struggled to overcome their mistakes, with quarterback Jordan Love turning the ball over once and Green Bay committing ten penalties.

Interceptions have become a major problem for Love – and his head coach Matt LaFleur is quickly growing tired of answering questions about them.

Detroit’s victory was significant not just for the Lions’ standings in the playoff picture, but also for their confidence.

With this win, Detroit sits half a game ahead of the Washington Commanders for the top seed in the NFC, a position that could give them a critical advantage heading into the postseason.

With half the season remaining, Detroit still has several indoor matchups ahead, but Sunday’s result proved they can handle the elements just as well.

Detroit’s dominance this season has made them serious contenders in the NFC. While teams like the Vikings, Eagles, and 49ers have struggled with inconsistency, the Lions have risen to the top of the standings, showing no signs of slowing down.

Their only loss came in September to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a defeat that now seems like a distant memory.

Lions fans, however, may remember last season’s heartbreaking end, when Detroit blew a 24-7 halftime lead in the NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers, narrowly missing their first-ever Super Bowl appearance.

But Campbell has instilled a resilient mentality in this year’s squad, and Sunday’s win in Green Bay proved that they’re prepared for whatever challenges January might bring.

A rematch of that NFC Championship Game against the Niners may very well be in-play. And the way things are looking, if it is to happen, that matchup will probably be hosted in Detroit.

What are your thoughts on the ultra-impressive season the Lions are having?

With apologies to the Chiefs, should it be the Lions who are considered the favorites to win the Super Bowl???
