The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers have met twice in recent Super Bowl history, and it seems Chiefs star Travis Kelce believes a third showdown is on the horizon.
On Sunday afternoon, the Chiefs defeated the 49ers 28-18 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. The win pushed Kansas City to a league-best 6-0 record, while the injury-plagued 49ers slipped to 3-4.
Despite San Francisco’s current struggles, they remain one of the top contenders in the NFC, especially if they can get healthy down the stretch.
Even with the slow start, the Niners sit just one game out of first place in the NFC West and trail the Wild Card race by 1.5 games.
Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl champion, appears confident the 49ers will rebound. After the game, he shared an optimistic message with San Francisco tight end George Kittle.
As the two tight end stars met on the field following Sunday’s game, Kelce offered Kittle a seven-word challenge: “Let’s do it again in February, bro.”
Super Bowl LIX is set for February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
The Chiefs, currently the NFL鈥檚 only undefeated team after seven weeks, are widely seen as favorites to reach the Super Bowl once again. The 49ers, however, face an uphill battle with their under-.500 record and injury woes.
While games are certainly not played on paper, you could make a strong argument that the 49ers have the best roster in the league when healthy.
Again, that doesn’t mean anything, and we’ve seen Kyle Shanahan’s team fail in big spots before. Having said that, it wouldn’t surprise too many people if the Chiefs and Niners end up meeting once again in February.
What are your thoughts on Kelce’s comment? … Will we indeed get another rematch between these two???
