49ers Fans Feel Fooled After Finding Out Rare Brock Purdy Contract Clause

Brock Purdy’s rise from being the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to leading the San Francisco 49ers to the NFC Championship and Super Bowl has been nothing short of remarkable.

But after a somewhat uneven 2024 season, Purdy’s recent contract extension has ignited heated discussion among fans and analysts alike.

Last year, Purdy’s numbers dipped – he threw just 20 touchdowns against 12 interceptions, posting career lows in completion percentage (65.9%) and passer rating (96.1).

The 49ers missed the playoffs, and some critics questioned whether Purdy was worth the hype.

Yet, the 25-year-old quarterback was rewarded with a five-year, $265 million contract that includes a rare full no-trade clause — a privilege usually reserved for elite veterans like Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes.

In fairness, Purdy took less money than he could’ve gotten. Priding himself on being a team-first leader, he was aware that the less he takes up of the salary cap, the better.

“This is our vision, this is hopefully what we can get out of it and get what you deserve and have earned and go from there,” Purdy said. “But, obviously, we want to make sure that we’re working together with our organization and setting up everybody for success.

“It’s not just for me to get all the money, as much as I can, but also like, hey, let’s surround yourself with a great team and players and a great locker room and all those things mattered. So, we definitely talked about that.”

Having said all of that, some 49ers fans were shocked to learn that Purdy’s new deal comes with a full no-trade clause…

“Keeps getting worse for 49ers fans, stuck with this bum lmaooooo.”

“Dude, I didn’t think it could get any worse. I was wrong. SAD!”

“Purdy finessed the hell out of the 49ers and Kyle “28-3” Shanahan lol. Sheesh. #NFL”

“Wow no trade clause is crazy.”

“Damn he robbed the 9ers.”

“Just give him ownership at this point.”

Regardless, Purdy remains focused on proving his worth on the field.

The new deal averages $45 million per season once the remaining year of his current contract is factored in, pushing Purdy high up the list of quarterback salaries – though not quite at the very top.

Reflecting on the negotiations, Purdy added, “We ended up where we needed to be,” and said his full focus is now on leading the 49ers to greater success.

Now, with this blockbuster deal in place, the pressure is on Purdy to silence his doubters and guide the 49ers from a disappointing season to the top of the NFC West and beyond.

What are your thoughts on San Francisco giving Purdy a full no-trade clause? … Do you think he has what it takes to get the Niners over the hump and finally win a Super Bowl???
