Young NFL Superstar Says He Will Step Away After 2027 Season

It certainly seems that Dallas Cowboys standout Micah Parsons has come down with a severe case of Olympic fever.

On Sunday, Parsons revealed plans to step away from football after the 2027 NFL season to focus on the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

While Parsons did not specify which event he aims to compete in, he hinted at the possibility of participating in flag football or potentially exploring another sport.

“After the 2027 season, I’m going to take a break from football to prepare for the Olympics!” Parsons posted on X.

Of course, it goes without saying that Parsons was joking. (Right?)

Parsons and other NFL stars have stated that they hope to compete in flag football when the sport makes its Olympic debut in 2028.

Having said that, it’s safe to assume Parsons won’t be stepping away from the NFL after the 2027 season.

“I need to find a way to get in the Olympics by 2028! What events do you think I could compete in?? Need ideas!!” Parsons asked his followers on X.

The All-Pro edge rusher is drawn to the debut of flag football at the 2028 Games.

Last October, the International Olympic Committee approved the addition of five new sports, including flag football, to the LA28 Summer Olympics.

This inclusion means the USA Football team will have a chance to compete on home soil.

USA Football CEO Scott Hallenbeck celebrated the news, stating, “Today is a momentous day for American football. We are incredibly thankful to the IOC and LA28 Organizing Committee for recognizing flag football as a sport worthy of inclusion in the Olympic Games.”

Flag football has gained significant global traction, with 20 million players across over 100 countries.

In the U.S., 7.1 million people have played the sport, and several states have even recognized girls’ flag football as a varsity sport.

Former Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III weighed in with advice, recommending Parsons join the USA flag football team.

“Just be the rusher in Flag Football. Most important position on the team. You have speed and are agile. It’s perfect for you,” Griffin posted on X.

While Parsons is exploring Olympic possibilities, he is also focused on his current contract situation with the Cowboys.

With his contract running through 2025 and a potential $21.32 million in earnings if not extended sooner, Parsons’ future remains a key question mark, along with teammates CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott.

In his first three NFL seasons, Parsons has established himself as a defensive powerhouse, becoming a finalist for NFL Defensive Player of the Year twice and finishing third once.

He has accumulated 40.5 sacks and earned multiple Pro Bowl selections, as well as first- or second-team All-Pro honors.

Do you think NFL players will be allowed to compete in flag football at the Olympics in 2028???
