Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is facing mounting scrutiny after the Buckeyes’ recent loss to archrival Michigan in the regular season finale.
The nightmare defeat, which marked Ohio State’s fourth straight against the Wolverines, has led many fans to question Day’s future with the program.
Amid the backlash, a familiar name surfaced as a potential replacement: former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer.
Meyer, however, wasted no time dispelling the speculation.
Today, the legendary coach issued a firm statement dismissing the idea of a return to the Buckeyes’ sideline.
“It has come to my attention that there are reports speculating my return to the sidelines in Columbus. While I thoroughly enjoyed my seven seasons as head coach at THE Ohio State University, I have no interest in coaching again,” Meyer stated.
“I will always be a Buckeye and have full confidence in Ryan Day, his staff, and every player that puts on the Scarlet and Gray.”
Meyer’s tenure at Ohio State, spanning from 2012 to 2018, was one of the most successful in program history.
He led the Buckeyes to an 83–9 record, including a national championship victory in 2014.
His unwavering support for Day and the current coaching staff comes as some fans express doubts about the program’s ability to win under its current leadership.
Despite the rumors and speculation, Meyer’s statement leaves no room for interpretation: he has no intention of returning to coaching. (And he NEVER goes back on his word.)
Instead, Meyer emphasized his belief in Day’s ability to lead Ohio State to future success.
For now, Day remains at the helm, tasked with rallying the Buckeyes as they aim to win the national championship despite their disastrous loss against Michigan.
What are your thoughts on Meyer’s statement?
Do you believe him when he says his coaching days are over for good? (What if they fix the current NIL mess? Would that change his mind?)
What about Day? … Despite the public support from Meyer, do you think his job is in jeopardy if they fall short in the playoffs???
