Stephen A. Smith is never short on confidence, and now he’s stirring the pot with talk of a potential presidential run. The ESPN star recently claimed he could shake up the political landscape and outshine any Democratic hopeful if he ever decided to run for office in 2028.
While the idea of Smith entering politics seems far-fetched, a recent poll suggests he’s not entirely without support. Two percent of voters said they would back him for president—just one point behind former Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. That may not be enough to land him in the White House, but it’s enough to get people talking.
Some fans and analysts have floated the idea that Smith should seriously consider politics, given his outspoken nature and ability to command attention. And Smith himself isn’t shy about his potential impact.
“I’m qualified to be a hell-raiser,” he said in a recent interview. “I’m going to bring the rain. Nobody is safe with me. Not a Democrat. Not a Republican. No one.”
Though Smith has been vocal about his support for the Democratic Party, he hasn’t held back in criticizing its leadership. He recently took aim at their priorities, arguing that “woke culture and cancel culture ravaged the country” and that Democrats focused too much on social issues rather than pressing concerns like the economy, immigration, and crime.
