Despite Nikola Jokic’s heroics against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Denver Nuggets fell short—and much of the blame is being directed toward Russell Westbrook. The veteran point guard’s late-game miscues proved costly, and as emotions ran high, Westbrook was caught on camera confronting a fan while walking to the locker room.
The incident, which quickly went viral, was shared by Rob Perez of SiriusXM NBA and Bleacher Report on social media. In the video, Westbrook is seen engaging with a courtside fan, visibly frustrated after the loss.
While the nature of the exchange remains unclear, fans online had no trouble forming their own conclusions. Many criticized Westbrook for failing to take accountability, suggesting he was deflecting blame after a poor performance.
“He’s got some massive ego and he’s super soft. Accept you sold the game and move on,” one fan wrote. “Always beefing with everyone and taking no blame.”
Another chimed in, “There is nothing that fan could have possibly said that Russ can take offense to after what he did in the end of that game.”
The Nuggets’ loss was especially frustrating given Jokic’s outstanding effort. The reigning MVP delivered a spectacular performance, only for it to be overshadowed by Westbrook’s late turnovers and a missed layup that could’ve changed the outcome.
Some fans even felt Westbrook’s confrontation took away from Jokic’s performance entirely. “To miss that layup and sell that performance by Jokic and then get mad at a fan for being the one to say it is kind of crazy,” a fan wrote.
This isn’t the first time Westbrook has been involved in postgame fan drama. Just last year with the Clippers, he confronted a courtside heckler following a game against the Charlotte Hornets. That pattern hasn’t gone unnoticed. “I’ve noticed he tends to only do this after a bad performance,” another user commented.
Westbrook’s fiery demeanor and on-court passion have always been a part of his brand, but his recent outbursts raise questions about whether the intensity is becoming more of a liability than an asset.
For the Nuggets, the focus remains on regrouping. But for Westbrook, moments like this are beginning to add up—and fans are running out of patience.
