The Baltimore Orioles are on a roll, riding a six-game winning streak, and they’re making moves to keep the momentum going. In a bid to strengthen their bullpen, the Orioles have acquired veteran right-handed reliever Scott Blewett from the Atlanta Braves for cash considerations. To make room on their 40-man roster, the Orioles have designated outfielder Jordyn Adams for assignment.
In addition, Ramón Laureano has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list, prompting another roster adjustment upon Blewett’s arrival from Atlanta.
Blewett’s recent journey has been a rollercoaster. He was designated for assignment by Atlanta after a late-inning collapse where he surrendered five earned runs. However, before this hiccup, Blewett was putting together an impressive season. He had showcased a stellar 2.28 ERA across stints with the Orioles and the Minnesota Twins before his time with the Braves, and he was riding high on six consecutive scoreless outings.
Earlier in the season, Baltimore picked up Blewett off waivers from Minnesota and saw promise in his performance with 4.1 scoreless innings over two appearances before deciding to designate him for assignment.
Despite the setback with Atlanta, Blewett has a respectable 3.91 ERA over 15 appearances and 25.1 innings this season. His 24 strikeouts against 11 walks illustrate his potential reliability in high-leverage situations.
Baltimore is banking on Blewett’s ability to deliver and perhaps prove the Braves’ decision to part ways was premature. As Blewett finds his footing yet again, switching teams for the third time in 2025, the Orioles are hopeful he can become a key component in their bullpen’s success.
