The legendary Nick Saban gave an emphatic endorsement of Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders during a recent appearance on The Pivot Podcast.
While Saban was humorously asked if he would ever consider taking the Dallas Cowboysβ head coaching job, he instead shifted the conversation to Sanders, giving the former NFL star a glowing recommendation for the role.
βI want him to get that job,β Saban said of Sanders.
Sabanβs praise for Sanders comes as no surprise, given their strong relationship.
The former Alabama coach has consistently shown his support for Sandersβ coaching journey.
Their mutual respect even extends to Sabanβs wife, Ms. Terry, who has reportedly forbidden him from picking against Sanders when appearing on College GameDay.
Speculation around Sanders as a candidate for the Dallas Cowboysβ head coaching position has grown ever since the team parted ways with Mike McCarthy.
Fans quickly connected the dots, pointing to Sandersβ history as a legendary cornerback for the Cowboys and his close relationship with team owner Jerry Jones.
Timing has also fueled the rumors. Sandersβ sons, Shedeur and Shilo, along with Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, are leaving Colorado, potentially freeing Sanders for new opportunities.
The buzz reached new heights a week ago, when Cowboys insider Ed Werder posted on X: βRegarding Deion Sanders: Iβm being told that he would almost certainly accept if Jerry Jones offers to make him the next #Cowboys head coach, that those around him are encouraging him to pursue it and that Jones is enamored with the idea.”
However, momentum has since cooled dramatically and multiple insiders have reported that it’s unlikely Jones will offer Sanders the job.
Though Sanders landing the Cowboys job seems unlikely for now, the possibility hasnβt been entirely ruled out.
Having a strong endorsement from Nick Saban, widely regarded as the greatest college football coach of all time, certainly doesnβt hurt.
What are your thoughts on the Sanders-to-Dallas storyline? … Do you think he’s the best candidate for the job???
