The New York baseball scene is heating up! With Juan Soto now rocking the Mets jersey, the rivalry with the Yankees just got a whole lot spicier. And of course, the debate rages on: who’s the better player, Soto or Aaron Judge?
MLB broadcaster Sal Licata recently weighed in on this hot topic, and he had some interesting things to say. While he acknowledges that Judge is an absolute beast – “the best player I’ve ever seen,” in his words – he’d still rather have Soto on his team.
Why? Two reasons. First, Soto’s younger. Judge is entering his age-33 season, and as Licata points out, even the best players start to decline at some point. Plus, Judge has a history of injuries, and those could become more frequent as he gets older.
Second, Licata loves Soto’s fearless attitude. He’s got ice in his veins and never backs down from a challenge. He’s proven himself in the biggest moments, both in New York and in the postseason. You can’t teach that kind of clutch gene!
Soto’s move to the Mets has definitely shaken things up. Yankees fans are understandably bummed that they missed out on him, especially after seeing how well he and Judge played together last season. But the Yankees aren’t sitting around sulking. They’ve been busy building a powerhouse roster, adding guys like Max Fried, Devin Williams, Cody Bellinger, and Paul Goldschmidt.
And now, they’re reportedly making a play for Jurickson Profar! They’ve offered him a cool $25 million to join the party in the Bronx. Profar is coming off a strong season and a stellar performance in the Caribbean Series. He’d be a fantastic addition to the Yankees outfield, alongside Judge and Bellinger.
It’s interesting to see how the Yankees and Mets are approaching this offseason. The Mets seem to be throwing money around like it’s going out of style, while the Yankees are being a bit more strategic with their spending. Remember that Soto signed a massive $765 million deal with the Mets? Yikes!
While some Yankees fans might be feeling a bit of buyer’s remorse after missing out on Soto, this new direction could be a blessing in disguise. They’re building a deep and talented team that could make a serious run at a championship. And hey, wouldn’t it be something to see Judge and Soto battling it out in the Subway Series? Now that’s what I call must-see TV!
