After a nightmare 0-3 start to the season, it’s no secret that the Florida State Seminoles are a complete mess.
In charge of it all is head coach Mike Norvell who has yet to fix the Noles’ issues in any way, shape or form.
In some ways, the harsh criticism Norvell is facing is a little unfair. After all, he’s a good football coach despite what some doubters say.
On the other hand, a large share of the blame falls directly on his head since he’s the man in charge.
Also, it’s hard to run away from the fact that he pinpointed DJ Uiagalelei as the savior at quarterback. (DJ sure didn’t come cheap either – which makes the decision that much crazier.)
While there’s a solid chance Norvell survives this disaster of a season, there is always the chance he gets kicked to the curb, especially if the year turns into a total trainwreck.
On that note, BetOnline Sportsbook released their odds for who will replace Norvell at Florida State if he is fired.
Here’s a look at the current odds….
Deion Sanders: +300
Matt Rhule: +400
Lane Kiffin: +600
Pat Surtain Sr.: +700
Jamey Chadwell: +1000
Needless to say, many fans are rolling their eyes at Deion Sanders being considered the favorite for the job.
While Sanders played for Florida State (1985-1988) and went on to dominate in the NFL for years, he has yet to show the ability to be a successful coach at the major college level.
While it would certainly be a “sexy” choice to hire “Coach Prime,” the chances of Florida State actually doing it have to be considered very small. (Apparently the sportsbooks disagree however.)
Having said that, it was only a year ago that ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith pushed for Florida State to hire Sanders.
“I bet you if Prime Time Deion Sanders was [Florida State’s] coach they wouldn’t have gotten left out [of the College Football Playoff]… The sizzle that he brings to the sport matters,” Smith said on First Take.
As we know, the Deion Sanders sizzle has all but disappeared.
What are your thoughts on BetOnline’s odds?
Of course, it depends how the rest of the season goes, but do you think Norvell deserves to be fired?
Let’s say he is indeed canned … Who do YOU think should replace him in Tallahassee???
