ESPN’s College GameDay will be broadcasting live from Atlanta tomorrow, ahead of the SEC Championship Game between the Georgia Bulldogs and Texas Longhorns.
While both teams will make the expanded College Football Playoff regardless of tomorrow’s outcome, there is still plenty at stake and there’s a great chance we could have a classic on our hands.
Getting back to College GameDay, one of the show’s biggest traditions is having a “celebrity guest picker” on set for the final segment when the crew makes their game predictions.
Most of the time, the guest picker has some sort of tie to one of the teams that’s playing in the game or is, at the very least, a college football fan.
This usual criteria is exactly why so many college football fans are upset at GameDay’s choice for the show tomorrow…
That’s right, actor Timothée Chalamet has been chosen to be the celebrity guest picker ahead of the the SEC Championship Game.
Chalamet is an acclaimed actor known for his starring roles in Dune and Wonka.
He also plays Bob Dylan in the upcoming film “A Complete Unknown,” which of course is the reason why he’ll be making the appearance tomorrow. (Disney owns Searchlight Pictures.)
Chalamet will join GameDay regulars Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Nick Saban, Pat McAfee, Lee Corso, and Desmond Howard on set in Atlanta.
The broadcast, leading up to the highly anticipated matchup at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, will begin at 9am EST, while the actual game will kick off at 4pm EST on ABC.
Though Chalamet is considered by some as an A-list actor, his selection as the guest picker on college football’s premier pregame show has upset many fans.
A New York City native, Chalamet attended Columbia and NYU and has no ties to Georgia, Texas, or the sport of college football.
Saturday’s game is set to be a thrilling rematch between the Bulldogs and Longhorns, both of whom have dominated the season.
Texas earned its spot in the SEC Championship after a dramatic victory over Texas A&M in the Lone Star Showdown, securing an 11-1 record in its inaugural SEC season.
Of course, the Longhorns’ only loss came at the hands of Georgia on October 19, a 30-15 defeat they’ll be eager to avenge.
Meanwhile, Georgia enters the game with a 10-2 record and a definite championship pedigree.
While the 2024 Dawgs have been more inconsistent than the teams of years past, we all know Kirby Smart will have his guys ready to go.
At the end of the day, the fact of the matter is Georgia’s A-game is just as strong as anyone’s in the country.
Tomorrow will mark the second College GameDay appearance for a Georgia-Texas matchup this season.
During their initial meeting in Austin, actor and diehard Longhorns fan Glenn Powell took on guest-picking duties.
Tomorrow, the college football world will be graced with the presence of Timothée Chalamet.
