Devin Booker’s time in Phoenix appears to be coming to an end, and if there’s one team that makes perfect sense to go all-in for him this offseason, it’s the Detroit Pistons.
With the Suns missing the 2025 NBA Playoffs and already firing head coach Mike Budenholzer, it’s clear the franchise is heading toward a major shake-up. The Kevin Durant–Bradley Beal–Devin Booker trio never found its rhythm, and without a first-round pick in the near future, Phoenix will need to explore bold trade options to restock its draft capital. Trading Booker, the youngest and most valuable of the three stars, may be the only realistic path forward.
If Phoenix opens the door to a blockbuster deal, Detroit should be the first team knocking.
The Pistons have quietly built something special. After several years of patient rebuilding, they’ve not only reached the playoffs, but they’re currently holding their own in a first-round series against the New York Knicks. Cade Cunningham has emerged as a franchise centerpiece, and the defense is among the league’s most disciplined. What they lack is a dynamic scorer to complement Cunningham and elevate the offense—and that’s where Booker fits perfectly.
Booker, who just averaged 25.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.1 assists in 2025, has been one of the NBA’s most consistent scorers for nearly a decade. His ability to generate his own shot, hit clutch jumpers, and also serve as a secondary playmaker would relieve pressure from Cunningham while creating a one-two punch that could contend for years. Their styles would mesh seamlessly, with Booker taking over scoring duties and Cade orchestrating the offense.
And let’s not forget the storyline element—Booker is a Grand Rapids, Michigan native. A return to his home state to help lead a young, exciting team on the rise would be a full-circle moment in his career. For the Pistons, it’s not just about acquiring a star, it’s about getting the right star—someone with ties to the city, the mentality to lead, and the skill set to transform the team.
Detroit has the pieces to make a deal work. Whether it’s young talent like Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson, or a package of picks and future assets, the Pistons have the flexibility to offer Phoenix a respectable return while keeping their core intact.
This is not a report—it’s a prediction. But if the Suns are heading for a rebuild and Booker is on the move, don’t be surprised if Detroit becomes a serious destination. He’d get to play winning basketball, represent his home state, and help lead a young team from playoff hopefuls to legitimate Eastern Conference contenders.
