Former Arizona State walk-on Mattheos Katergaris filed a lawsuit against the school and the Arizona Board of Regents, claiming he suffered injuries from a golf cart accident that occurred after a practice.

Now, a recent update to the lawsuit reveals Katergaris is holding star running back Cam Skattebo accountable, accusing him of being “the actual and proximate cause” of the injuries he sustained.

A report from the Phoenix News Times has shed light on the addition of Skattebo as a defendant in the case.

However, it remains unclear whether Skattebo has been officially served with the lawsuit. The News Times reached out to both Skattebo and his marketing agency, Range Media Partners, for comment but did not receive a response.

Skattebo, who is preparing for the NFL Draft, is at the center of the updated legal claims. According to Katergaris’ lawsuit, he and another player were seated in the back of a golf cart, which had a rear seat weight limit of 600 pounds.

The suit states that Skattebo “then jumped on the back of the golf cart” and “jumped up and down on the rear bench as the golf cart traveled a considerable distance. Subsequently, the rear bench of the golf cart structurally failed.”

Katergaris allegedly fell from the cart and “sustained serious bodily injury that required months of medical treatment.

In response, the Arizona Board of Regents filed an answer to the lawsuit on February 11.

The board denied much of Katergaris’ complaint but admitted that Skattebo likely did board the golf cart and that the rear bench of the cart did indeed break.

The defense, however, contends that Katergaris may have “over-treated and/or incurred unnecessary and/or unreasonable expenses” in his medical care.

Furthermore, the board maintains that it “has already paid for some or all” of the medical costs associated with Katergaris’ injuries.

Of course, Skattebo was one of the biggest stars from this past season’s College Football Playoff.

While football is the ultimate team sport, Skattebo almost single-handedly beat the Texas Longhorns in the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day.

As for the ongoing legal matter, we’ll see if more details are revealed as the draft creeps closer…
