At 89 years old, Lee Corso remains one of the most beloved and recognizable figures in the college football world.

Known for his charismatic personality and iconic “headgear picks” on ESPN’s College GameDay, Corso has long achieved legendary status in the sport.

However, questions loom about whether Corso will return to the program for the 2025 season as he nears his 90th birthday.

Burke Magnus, ESPN’s president of content, addressed the uncertainty during an appearance with SI Media.

Magnus emphasized that discussions about Corso’s future will take place after the current season concludes.

“Listen, I think we’re going to do what we’ve done now for a couple of years running, which is we’re going to have a conversation with him after the season, see where things are,” Magnus said.

“You know, he’s a special guy. I mean, he’s one of the nicest men any of your listeners or anyone on Earth could ever come across. And he’s been absolutely iconic on the show.”

Magnus added that there is no rush to decide. “We’re going to get through the playoff this year, let everybody decompress and then we have some time to figure out what we’re going to do for next season.”

Corso, a mainstay of College GameDay since its debut in 1987, has become synonymous with the sport itself.

Despite facing significant health challenges, including a stroke in 2009 that temporarily left him unable to speak, Corso has continued to contribute to the program.

Since his recovery, he has relied on scripted appearances to manage the lingering effects on his speech.

In recent years, Corso’s role has been scaled back, particularly after missing five episodes during the 2022 season due to health issues.

He is no longer featured for the entirety of the three-hour broadcast, though his segments remain a highlight for fans.

Corso’s enduring presence on the show has shaped the way millions of fans experience college football Saturdays.

As ESPN and Corso prepare for discussions about his future, any potential departure would mark the end of an era, fundamentally reshaping the College GameDay that we’ve become accustomed to.
